The clip lines up with the nib, so you can't avoid having the clip bumped up against one's forefinger. The matte black finish should be avoided if one is concerned about scratches on the pen's barrel. It scratches easily and often. Considering these two issues alone, I strongly recommend against its purchase. The pen is a decent writing instrument that I would not recommend as a primary fountain pen. It conveys ink to paper clearly, but I find writing with the not fully recessed clip where the forefinger guides the pen to be too intrusive. In addition, if you have a tendency to be careless-- let's say you do not clip the pen to a shirt or jacket pocket but let it roll around in a jacket side pocket with your keys-- you will have one scratched up pen.
